Parent and Community Volunteers

Parent and Community Volunteers are always welcome at Glenview State School.  Please ensure that you sign in via the Administration Office.  Volunteers are not only appreciated in your own child’s classroom but also in other areas of the school. We have a variety of opportunities for your child to see you involved in the place they learn!

Please contact the relevant class teacher or Administration Office if you would like to be involved.  All volunteers are required to read and sign a declaration of understanding of the role and responsibilities involved with spending time with students within a school community - MAST -Key Messages Guide - which has been prepared by the Education Department.  We will have a hard copy of this document available at the office however we also have an electronic sign in system - PassTab which allows you to register your details and have you complete the MAST and Student Protection online.

Changes to the Blue Card System – What Parents Need to Know

From 20 September 2025, some important changes to the Blue Card system that could affect parent volunteers at school came into effect.

🔹 What’s Changing?

The parental exemption now only applies to parents volunteering for activities that involve their own child.

This means:

  • If you're helping out at an event or in a classroom where your child is present, you don’t need a Blue Card.

  • If you're volunteering at an event that doesn’t involve your child, you will need a Blue Card.

✅ Where You Do and Don’t Need a Blue Card:

  • Tuckshop: No Blue Card required (still covered under the parental exemption).

  • Uniform Shop: A Blue Card is required.

  • General P&C Meetings (General members only - all the Executive members required a paid Blue Card)
  • Classroom Help or School Events:

    • If your child is involved → No Blue Card needed.

    • If your child is not involved → Blue Card required.

📚 Special Note for Qualified Teachers and Other Exempt Occupations

If you are a qualified teacher working at another school, or if you work in another occupation that exempts you from needing a Blue Card, this exemption applies only while working within that profession's workplace. If you would like to volunteer at school events that do not include your child, you will need to apply for an Exemption Card.

In other words, you are only exempt when working in your professional capacity. Volunteering outside of that role at events where your child is not involved requires a Blue Card or Exemption Card.

📝 Don’t Forget to Sign In

For the safety of all students, all parent volunteers must sign in at the school office when arriving.
We are now required to record details of all volunteers assisting during school time or events, this includes your date of birth. This record will be a register that we are now required to hold on site of all parent volunteers who are exempt from needing a Blue Card.

ℹ️ Other Important Info:

  • Volunteer Blue Cards are free to apply for, and we encourage you to apply for one.

  • Once approved, your Blue Card will be linked to the school’s Organisation Portal so we can stay informed about your status.

We really value our wonderful parent volunteers—thank you for helping us keep our school safe and supportive for all students!

If you have any questions or need help applying for a Blue Card or Exemption Card, please contact the school office.
